50 Years of the TMC Lamp

01/18/2012 - 16:00

Who would have known? The TMC lamp, designed by Miguel Milà in 1960 and produced in 1962, is 50 years old! During this half century of life, this simple, elegant and very functional object has lit up homes, offices and diverse spaces, so much so, that since it was put first put on the market for sale by Tramo, it has not stopped production up until present day by companies such as  Polinax, BD Ediciones de Diseño and now, Santa & Cole.

The TMC lamp won the Delta d’Or (ADI/FAD) in 1961 and won again in 1986 the Delta d'Or for 25 anys (ADI/FAD). At the Museu de les Arts Decoratives we have a TMC lamp produced by Tramo in 1962 (MADB 135.619) that you see in the accompanying photo

Last year, Santa & Cole produced the TMC lamp again but an imporvied version, incorporating definitive changes in the characteristic system of up-down on it's circular screen. And since it is more active than ever in its 50th year, Santa & Cole has decided to celebrate its birthday. The party takes place at Biosca & Botey, Thursday January 19th at 7:30 p.m.

Note: To celebrate the occasion they produced a limited series of 50 TMC lamps that use Phillips EnduraLED bulbs that last for 25 years to keep the light alive until its 75th anniversary!
