Contest for Digitally Fabricated Designs
The Dissenys Fabricats Digitalment contest, organized by the Institut d'Arquitectura Avançada de Catalunya (IAAC) in collaboration with the Institut de Cultura de l'Ajuntament de Barcelona (ICUB), is now running. The contest will present four awards of 2,000 euros for the best designs towards the development of products or inventions realized by designers who are residents of Barcelona and its surrounding areas. The products may pertain to any area of design, robotics, furniture, lighting, and communication among others. The must have been created using digital fabrication machines such as 3d printers, digital milling machines, laser cutters, digital embroidery or vinyl cutters, all of the tools available at Fab Lab Barcelona at the IACC.
The jury that will choose the four winners is composed of; the director of the IACC, Vicente Guallart, Ramón Prat of the DHUB and the ICUB, the president of Santa & Cole Javier Nieto, the co-director of thel MAA_IACC, Marta Malé-Alemany and the project manager of Fab Lab Barcelona, Tomàs Diez. The four winning prototypes will have to be developed during the following months, and when finished, will be made ready for sal on the web site of Fab Labs, which includes the presence of over 20 countries.
To apply for one of these four awards, participants must send their curriculum and a project proposal in a document of maximum 8 pages, that explains in detail, the project and uses images to illustrate the process. The winners will be announced on August 17th, during Fab7, an internatioinal conference by Fab Labs, that will be celebrated in the city of Lima. The producers will begin to commercialize the products on the 16th of December, 2011.
