The DHUB in collaboration with the MACBA
The Design Hub Barcelona (DHUB) is lending over 40 documents from their documention centre, Utopia is possible. ICSID. Eivissa, 1971. The runs at the MACBA until January 20th, 2013
The exhibition commemorates the VII Congress of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) which was celebrated betwen the 14th and 16th of October, in 1971, in Eivissa. Here was where the multidisciplinarity between design, art and architecture was crystallized. The congress became a testing ground to study the relationship between these practices and brought about a new way to understand, and view design. The exhibition commemorates the event and highlights ideas that we can still use in regards to the present day, such as sustainability, participation, solidarity, the new relations between industry and society, and the liberating role of the art experience.
Parallel to the MACBA's exhibition, at the exhibition From the One-off Object to Product Design running until December 31st, 2012 (DHUB collection. Museu de les Arts Decoratives) you can view a display case dedicated to the VII Congress ICSID. This display case is part of the area dedicated to Barcelonian design between 1968 and 1979, a crucially important decade in the history of Barcelona when it transition from a dictator state to a democracy and a time when design became a socially recognized discipline. Here you will also find a collection of pieces by various creators that took part in the conference and shared their own unique utopic vision.
The documents loaned to the exhibition are part of collection at DHUBdoc, the DHUB's documentation centre, which includes documents from the ADI-FAD archives, the MADB archives, and a donation from Jordi Mañá.
One of the DHUBdoc's objectives is to be an active participant in the process of document and archive conservation in regards to design.
