The HfG Ulm, the Braun Firm, Dieter Rams and Other Kindred Spirits

Title: The HfG Ulm, the Braun Firm, Dieter Rams and Other Kindred Spirits
Speaker: Dr. Klaus Klemp, Head of Exhibitions at the Museum of Applied Arts, Frankfurt am Main

Between 1955 and 1961, the Braun company, based in Frankfurt am Main, carried out a highly innovative experiment aimed at achieving truly contemporary designs for its radios and domestic appliances. At first this ‘Braun Laboratory’ was very much influenced by HfG Ulm, but before long it had established a powerful design department of its own, clearly distinct from but working in collaboration with the Ulm school. This talk will explain that process and the consequences it has had for present-day companies such as Apple.
