Contemporary Wallpapers

In 2009, in relation to the study gallery Wallpapers. Collection of the Museu de les Arts Decoratives and of the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques de Barcelona, the DHUB expanded its historical Wallpaper Collection with the addition of 23 examples of contemporary wallpapers produced between 2004 and 2009. This study gallery was the first exhibition dedicated to wallpaper in Spain and exhibited a selection of the most significant local and international wallpapers from the Collection that have been produced over the last 50 years.
 
The increase in popularity of contemporary wallpaper has allowed for the incorporation of contemporary designs from Barcelona, across Europe and America, to our heritage reserves.
 
These wallpapers, created using advanced technologies, and manufacturing processes, have influenced not only design and production but aesthetics. In fact, contemporary wallpaper has recaptured its former splendour and many artists and designers have created graphic proposals that have gone on to be produced by the principal companies in the sector. Technology has also allowed for the incorporation of thermal and phosphorescent finishes and interactive wallpapers that invite you to draw on them or attach objects, ideas which were previously unimaginable. Other influences include preoccupations with the environment and as such we are now finding wallpapers that have been created taking the utmost consideration for the environment from the point of production and recycling.
